Our Story
Pond. Fish. Makhana.
In Mithila, that's the old saying — pokhari, machh, makhaan. The pond, the fish, the fox nut. It's been that way for generations, long before anyone called makhana a "superfood."
We didn't invent this crop. We grew up around it — watching it harvested from village ponds each monsoon, hand-popped over open flame, sorted by hand for size and whiteness. That's still how it's done, and it's still where ours comes from.
Every batch starts with farmers we've worked with for years. Nothing is mass-fried or flavour-coated to cover shortcuts — just makhana and dry fruits, roasted slow, packed fresh, and sent out the way we'd want to receive them ourselves.
In 2022, Mithila Makhana received an official Geographical Indication (GI) tag — legal recognition that makhana grown in this region is genuinely distinct, and can't be labelled "Mithila Makhana" from anywhere else. It's not a claim we're making up. It's on record.
"I started this because the makhana I grew up eating tasted nothing like what's sold in most shops today. I wanted people outside Mithila to taste the real thing — not a version of it." — Nitin Raj (Founder)
